Carson Valley Inn: A golfer’s retreat in the heart of Divine 9 Country

Golf getaways in Carson Valley promise plenty of scenic views, vistas, tight greens and challenging doglegs.

The closest courses to Carson Valley Inn are Genoa Lakes Golf Club and Resort and Carson Valley Golf Course.

The main casino-hotel offers 150 hotel plush rooms, 38 deluxe rooms and 10 suites. There’s also a 74-room Motor Lodge and adjacent Carson Valley RV Resort that has 59 sites with shower rooms, pet area, full hook-ups and a laundry facility.

Carson Valley Inn guests can enjoy free WiFi, free use of a Business Center and free use of the indoor pool area which also includes two glass-enclosed hot spas and a fitness center room, both with mountain views.

Divine 9 holiday deals

Carson Valley Golf Course - Is offering its season pass starting Dec. 15 at 8 a.m. A limited number of these passes are available so don’t wait. The fully-stocked pro shop also offers gift certificates that can be used for play or on merchandise.

Dayton Valley Golf Club - The lowest deals of the year on existing merchandise will be offered at Dayton Valley as part of their “Sip and Shop” from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 30. Complimentary holiday cookies, treats and drinks will be offered while you browse. While you’re shopping make sure you look into their raffle tickets which will enter you for a chance to win free golf memberships at three courses: Dayton Valley, Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno and Tahoe City Golf Course. Eagle Valley Golf Course - Whether it’s a sleeve of golf balls, shoes, gloves or a set of clubs, Eagle Valley pro shop has plenty of gift ideas for the golfer you love. Need a stocking stuffer? Pick up a few gift certificates. Family and office parties help get folks in the holiday spirit. Eagle Valley offers plenty of room to make events memorable with scrumptious dinner menus as well.

Empire Ranch Golf Course - For your spouse, significant other or junior golfer, check out Empire Ranch’s annual pass. Purchase before Dec. 31 and get 10% off. 2nd Annual Golf Writer Contest Underway

Interested in becoming a golf writer? Perfect timing as “Hooked on Golf,” the game’s seminal radio show since 1994 on KNBR 680 in San Francisco, is partnering with courses in Carson City and Carson Valley to award a paid writing assignment to report on the Divine 9 Media Tour.

The Divine 9 Tour is 2 holes at 9 courses in 11 hours – and has been referred to by media as “a golf destination primer-on-steroids,” and “The Bataan Golf March.” It’s sun-up to sun-down, on the bus and off the bus, onto the courses and off the courses, with the threat of mental and physical exhaustion from the demands of play and verbal repartee. Well, it’s not that tough, what with a rolling lunch, various hydration opportunities – ice chest and awards dinner…

Drink breaks included.

So who might be the next Herbert Warren Wind, P.G. Wodehouse, Dan Jenkins, Jim Murray or John Updike? The person who can tell a story and spin a tale of their favorite golf trip – whether fun, funny, poignant, true or imagined. Entrants have until Friday, September 28, noon PST, to either submit a 200 – 400 word missive in writing, or email a smart phone video of 90 seconds or less.

A panel of judges will determine the winner to be announced during the radio program, Saturday, September 29, between 7:00am and 8:00am.

If you’re able to grip it and rip it on the golf course, can you do the same behind your laptop? For the winner the prize includes a $250 writing fee for a 500-word story, four nights lodging, media tour, two traditional rounds of golf at Divine 9 member courses, meals, helpful reporting tips from attending media pros, travel allowance and memories for a lifetime. The winner will be interviewed on the radio program with the written coverage living in infamy on “Hooked on Golf” and the Divine 9 websites. Photos and video will be included, so who knows, it could turn into a writing or acting career!

The Divine 9 Media Tour includes a welcome reception, Monday, October 1 and the Media Tour, Tuesday, October 2, along with an awards/survival dinner celebration. The winner will receive two nights lodging at either Carson Valley Inn or Holiday Inn Express Minden and two additional post-Tour nights to recuperate, along with two rounds of golf at Divine 9 member courses (a traditional 18 holes), $150 gas allowance, and select meals.

Finding the 19th hole along the Divine 9

After getting in 18 holes of near-scratch golf, what better way to play back your best shots of the day than cozied up inside a 19th hole clubhouse lounge? Divine 9 courses offer up a number of food and happy hour specials-check them out.

  • At the Lakes Course at Genoa, you’ll find the Sports Club, ideal for casual get-togethers or post-game snacks. Learn how to better your golf game with your better half this summer

Learn how to play golf with your better half this summer at Carson Valley Golf Course. Couples looking to brush up on their golf skills are invited to Wednesday clinics through the summer that are designed especially for them. All areas of the game are covered including driving, chipping, putting, rules and etiquette. The clinics begin at 5:30 p.m. and cost $20. All skill levels are welcome.

Carson Valley also offers its summer couples league every Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m. Couples can play 9 holes of golf, win some prizes and enjoy dinner. The cost is $30 per person. Call (775) 265-3181.

Carson Valley isn’t the only place offering deals. There are lessons and clinics available for all skills and abilities at courses around the Carson Valley and Carson City region.

Between Adidas, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, Footjoy, Callaway and TaylorMade, there’s a number of options to choose from whether you’re looking for golf shirts, shoes, bags or balls.

At Genoa Lakes the pro shop is open daily while the Genoa Resort shop will open in the spring. Both shops carry top name brands in men’s and women’s golf equipment: gloves, balls, shoes and apparel: shirts, pants, skirts and hats.

Empire Ranch Pro Shop

Silver Oak Golf and Event Center not only has a pro shop but a virtual one as well. You can shop online for the latest golf accessories or buy gift certificates here.

Ditto for the pro shop at Eagle Valley Golf in Carson City. They offer top of the line golf clubs, balls, shoes, hats and accessories. Plus you can pay for your memberships or sign up for lessons online through the Web store.

Offering a full selection of golf apparel and equipment, the Carson Valley Golf Club pro shop is open, winter hours, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Gift cards and season passes are available at the pro shop or by calling (775) 265-3181.

Be sure to check out the clubhouse at Dayton Valley Golf Club. This 15,000 square foot facility features a large bar and grill area, outdoor patio (weather permitting), special banquet rooms, full service golf shop, locker rooms, lobby and offices.

Gobble up the golf this weekend at the Divine 9

With your wife or significant other off to shop this weekend, there’s a plethora of reasons to get in your last rounds of late fall golf before the snow flies at a number of Carson City and Carson Valley courses that make up the Divine 9.

While it will be closed on Thursday, Genoa Lakes Golf Club will open Friday for some great shopping deals on golf accessories, not to mention plenty of golf to play. The pro shop will have a Black Friday merchandise sale through Sunday. All golf bags are on sale and all merchandise is 35 percent off. Looking for a good Christmas stocking stuffer? Try personalized Titleist golf balls. If you pay for the golf balls Genoa Lakes will personalize them for you for free. Meanwhile go to their website for the latest deals on tee-times, including coupons from the site that can be printed and turned into the pro shop. While the Lakes Course is open, the Genoa Resort Course is closed for the season.

Carson Valley Golf Course is wishing golfers a Happy Thanksgiving weekend by offering up its family time specials throughout the weekend. The cost is $30 for 18 with a cart. The course is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and open until 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Other courses are highlighting their fall season rates:
