Carson Valley Inn gets the party started early with a Saturday, Feb. 2 Tailgate in the parking lot from noon to 4 p.m. The event features live music, food and drink specials, drawings and a chance to meet former NFL players.

Ring in New Year’s Eve in Carson Valley

Leave your clubs at home when the sun goes down Monday, Dec. 31. Genoa Lakes Golf Club has a party planned to ring in 2013 in country club style with dinner, drinks and dancing. The celebration begins at 5 p.m. with cocktails and Hors d’oeuvres inside Antoci’s. Sample the bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with fresh lemon herb infused with goat cheese or seared wild Ahi on a fried wonton crisp with wasabi mayo and teriyaki sauce. And that’s only the beginning.

A multi-course gourmet dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., starting with a baby heirloom lettuce and spinach salad with toasted almonds, feta cheese and kalamata olives with pomegranate vinaigrette.

Following an intermezzo of raspberry sorbet with a splash of champagne to cleanse your palate, it is on to the main course featuring grilled “baseball cut” Top Sirloin with a Portobello, Shiitake mushroom and Cippolini onion reduction finished with smoked gorgonzola; next up is on to Jumbo Prawns Siciliana sauteed with champagne and lemon Cello Beurre blanc served with Yukon gold sour cream and horseradish potato puree and a baby squash medley.

Celebrate the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013 three times with the first for New York at 9 p.m., the second party at 10 p.m. for the Central time zone and the West Coast party at midnight. On or off the golf course, Carson Valley swings into the holiday season with its own blend of hometown charm, festivities and good cheer.

In its third year, Candy Cane Lane at the Carson Valley Inn features thousands of seasonal lights and a variety of scenes through December depicting traditional characters and images of Christmas. Tune your car radio to 89.9 FM to listen to accompanying music. The best way to experience this visual and musical salute to the holiday season is to pull into the Carson Valley Inn parking lot at the RV Resort.

Candy Cane Lane adds to the visual holiday celebration done in the Carson Valley each year by the Town of Gardnerville‘s light display in Heritage Park and the Town of Minden‘s dynamic seasonal illumination of the Gazebo in Minden Park.

Do you have an ugly holiday sweater you keep hidden? Bring it out during the Holiday Ugly Sweater Party Dec. 6, 5:50-7:30 p.m. at Tahoe Ridge Winery. Cash prizes for the top three ugliest sweaters, appetizers, hot drink and wine specials will be featured for the party.

Listen to live Christmas music Friday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden with the TOCCATA Chorus and Orchestra performing Handel’s holiday masterpiece, Messiah.

Catch up on your holiday shopping Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the 31st Douglas High Christmas Craft Faire. Browse 100 different crafters and artists and nibble on snacks provided by Douglas High School culinary arts program.

Also Dec. 8 is the Christmas in the Sierra Concert at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Historic Town Hall in Genoa. Ticket buyers receive 10% off dinner purchased at Tombstone Tap & Grill and Genoa Station Bar and Grill. Genoa Country Store will offer the discount to guests attending the 5 p.m. show. Tickets are limited so order early.

Sample the holiday cheer Saturday, Dec. 8 from 6-9 p.m. during the third annual Gardnerville Santa Pub Crawl. Dress up for drink specials and your chance at part of their $400 in prize giveaways. Crawl starts at Battle Born Wine with stops at Carson Valley bars and restaurants. Entry is a $5 donation that will go to support nonprofit groups, Austin’s House and Carson Valley Food Closet.

Interested in holiday antiques? The Dangberg Home Ranch Holiday Toy Exhibit runs Dec. 8-9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days and displays holiday toys and decorations from the 1860s to 1940s.

Members of Dayton Valley are invited to their Holiday Party Dec. 12 at 5 p.m. Enjoy a no host cocktail reception with a 3 course dinner following at 6 p.m. All are welcome to ring in the New Year with them starting at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 31.

More holiday music can be heard during the Joyful Noise Christmas Concert, Dec. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Historic Genoa Town Hall.  Cherie and John Shipley are the featured performers with the Joyful Noise Chorus.

Pull out that ugly sweater again for the “End of the World As We Know It” party at Battle Born Wine Dec. 21, from 6-7 p.m. Enjoy wine and tequila tastings and an ugly sweater contest.

Are you spending Thanksgiving in Carson City or Carson Valley? If it’s not snowing outside, chances are you can take in a round of golf in the morning and get in a nice Thanksgiving meal with family and/or friends in the afternoon. All Divine 9 courses will be open on Thanksgiving morning, weather permitting.

Carson Valley Golf Course - Get in the Thanksgiving spirit with the Carson Valley Turkey Shoot on Saturday, Nov. 10. A 10 a.m. shotgun will kick things off. There will be soup at the turn and you could win a turkey at the end! There will also be a Holiday Open House from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. where you can score early holiday deals. On Thanksgiving the clubhouse will open at 9 a.m. and rounds of golf will be available until 3 p.m. Golfers can take in 18 holes with a cart for $30 and $25 walking. Play 9 holes for $25 with a cart or $20 walking. After you’ve worked up an appetite, check out the Thanksgiving menu at Carson Valley Inn. CV Steak and Katie Country Kitchen will have holiday dinner specials.

Dayton Valley Golf Club - Saturday, Nov. 10 Dayton will host their “Beat the Pro Turkey Shoot” starting with a 10 a.m. shotgun.  If you beat the pro, you win a turkey. Dayton Valley will have Thanksgiving golf as well. Get in 18 holes with a cart for $35. The pro shop will be opened until 3 p.m. Reserve your Thanksgiving tee times as there are typically a good number of golfers out on this holiday. While you’re there, buy a raffle ticket or 20 and you could win free golf memberships at three courses: Dayton Valley, Wolf Run Golf Club in Reno and Tahoe City Golf Course. The contest is valued at $3,300 and raffle tickets cost $1 each. They can be purchased inside the pro shop at each course or by calling (775) 246-7888 ex.1.

Eagle Valley Golf Courses - Shotgun start for Thanksgiving golf is 9 a.m. Green fees are $25 for the East Course, $30 for the West Course and include breakfast and a golf cart. Like the Facebook page for additional specials. Looking for a holiday spread after your round? Nearby Carson Station in Carson City will serve a bountiful dinner.

Empire Ranch Golf Course - Get in 9, 18, or try for 27 holes on Thanksgiving Day. Rounds start at $20 for 9 holes, $30 for 18 holes. Nearby Gold Dust West will be happy to have you for Thanksgiving dinner when you wrap up your game.

Genoa Lake Golf Course - Holiday golf begins early at the Lakes Course. Green fees are $60 for all-day play, $160 for foursomes. The cost includes a cart and range balls. Thanksgiving dinner is offered at nearby Casino Fandango inside the Rum Jungle Buffet or Duke’s Steakhouse for a more formal dining experience inside.

Silver Oak Golf and Event Center - Fuel up with a light breakfast inside the Cadillac Bar and Grill and get in 18 holes $35. Several Carson City restaurants will have a traditional Thanksgiving menu available for a warm meal post golf.

Sunridge Golf Club - Sunridge offers holiday golf for $30 a round which includes a golf cart. Sunridge is conveniently located to several restaurants that will have Thanksgiving options available.

Free Johnny Lee Concert

The Carson Valley Inn is celebrating its 28th Birthday August 19 – 24 starting with a day of events and promotions on Sunday, August 19 highlighted by a free Johnny Lee concert in the parking lot at 7 p.m.  A Billy Richards’ Coasters concert in the Valley Ballroom winds up the celebration on Friday night.

The outdoor festivities from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 19 include free ice cream bars and popcorn, $2 draft beer, $1 soda or water, a giant sand castle, a rock-climbing wall, a giant slide, clowns, a magician, face painters and more.  Inside the casino, the Inn is serving free cake and champagne from 3 to 4 p.m. and 8 to 9 p.m. and free birthday t-shirts at random times throughout the day while supplies last.  There will also be post-concert drawings for up to $5,000 in the casino at 9 and 10 p.m.

Birthday Week at the Carson Valley Inn also includes 50% off all bakery good purchased on Monday when using your INN Club points to pay, a free CVI birthday tee shirt or hat on Monday with 100 points, a Ladies’ Night promotion on Wednesday and Free Bingo on Thursday.

Johnny Lee is a member of the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame.  After spending 10 years with Mickey Gilley, he shot to fame when he performed in the movie Urban Cowboy, which starred John Travolta and Deborah Winger.  He recorded several songs used in the soundtrack including Lookin’ For Love which shot to #1 on the Billboard Country Music Chart and #2 on the Pop Music Singles Charts.

He followed up Lookin’ For Love with One In A Million, which spent two weeks at #1.  More #1 Singles during this time included Bet Your Heart On Me, The Yellow Rose (a duet with Lane Brody) and You Could’ve Heard a Heart Break.  His string of Top 10 hits continued with Pickin’ Up Strangers, Prisoner of Hope, Be There for Me Baby, Cherokee Fiddle, Sounds Like Love, Hey Bartender and Rollin’ Lonely.

Divine 9 Ticket To Paradise is The Perfect Stocking Stuffer

Candy Cane Lane, a custom outdoor drive-thru holiday display at the Carson Valley Inn will be lit up for nightly viewing starting Thanksgiving evening, November 24.  Highlighted by thousands of seasonal lights, Candy Cane Lane is a variety of scenes with people and traditional characters and images getting ready for Christmas – a visual salute to the festive holiday season.  To view Candy Cane Lane, pull into the Carson Valley Inn parking lot at the RV Resort Entrance – between the Carson Valley Market and the Inn’s electronic sign. The lighted arches mark the way!

According to Carson Valley Inn General Manager Steve Chappell, “Candy Cane Lane was very popular last year and we’ve improved the experience for this year with a new sound system for the Christmas music and new moving parts on some of the displays.  We have also added many more lights and decorations to our new front casino entrance to further enhance the Carson Valley’s Christmas spirit. We plan to continue making more improvements each year.”

Collin Raye to Perform in September

The Carson Valley Inn, one of the original Divine 9 Lodging Partners, has a Collin Raye concert coming up on Saturday, September 17,the perfect stop before, during or after a golf trip to the Divine 9 area.   Five-time nominee for country music’s Male Vocalist of the Year, Collin Raye will be performing live in the Carson Valley Inn’s Valley Ballroom on Saturday, September 17. Twenty-three of Collin’s 25 singles went top-10; fifteen of these going all the way to #1.  Some of his biggest hits were “Love, Me,”  “Little Rock,” “In This Life,” “I Think About You,” “My Kind of Girl,” “That’s My Story,” and “I Want You Bad.”  You’ll enjoy many of these hits and more at his CVI appearance.  Tickets for this very special concert are just $25 and are available at the Carson Valley Inn hotel desk or by phone at 775-783-6606.
