Walking tours along the Kit Carson Trail in the historical district of Carson City offer visitors a glimpse into the city's rich heritage. Marked by a painted blue line and inlaid bronze medallions on the sidewalk, the Kit Carson Trail guides visitors through the historical homes district and downtown area, including the capitol grounds. This gives visitors an exciting chance to explore 2.5 miles of beautiful Carson City and the legend of Kit Carson herself!

Throughout the summer, Carson City’s downtown core is alive with activity. The business community and citizens formed a consortium to aide in revitalization efforts. Some of the events included a weekly farmer’s market, live music, family activities, gardening demos and more. Antique collectors may find themselves wishing they packed an extra suitcase. With a past that dates back to the mid 1800s, the area is a Mecca for finding antiques and collectible treasures. Vintage glass ware, furniture, clothing and more await the discerning shopper, and Comstock era memorabilia makes for remarkable souvenirs.
Each of the Carson Valley’s towns, Genoa, Minden and Gardnerville provide their own style of shopping opportunities. What the three towns share is a leaning towards small shops with knowledgeable owners and unusual inventories.
Besides antiquing, retail and boutique shopping is a great way to explore the local area. Shoppers can feel good about a splurge at locally owned and operated businesses, like fine outdoor adventure wear from Sierra Nevada Trading Co., or a pair of snazzy cowboy boots from Corral West in the Carson Mall.
